Lock Hangingwall Cutoffs menu item was deprecated in Version 2.2.

StructureSolver locks hangingwall cutoffs automatically as required and previous menu option has been removed. Hangingwall cutoffs are locked whenever a more surface is moved on the footwall side of the fault and whenever the bottom segment of a fault is modified in any way. This makes the modeling process much simpler and more intuitive.

Discussion

This example illustrates a number of ways in which StructureSolver adds value during the seismic interpretation process:

  • The polarity of the main bounding fault for the graben is unequivocally determined, and its deep trajectory is established.
  • The overall convex bend on the main fault is shown to control both an array of synthetic faults and the regional dip of deep downthrown reflectors.
  • A plausible case is made for the correlation of deep reflectors across the main fault.
  • It is clear that the fault was moving with high expansion rate when the sediments corresponding to these deep reflectors were being deposited.

If this type of analysis were performed early in the 3D interpretation process, for a series of sections across the failed rift, the overall kinematic and structural framework would be well established, and the interpretation of deep faults and horizons could proceed with confidence.
