Display and Animation of Strain

Display and Animation of Strain

Another significant addition to StructureSolver 2.0 is the ability to display the local and average strains associated with any structural model.  For any structural model, strain ellipses may be interactively added anywhere along a model surface with a dynamic display showing position dependent changes in strain orientation, surface strains and principle strains. Once strain ellipses are placed within the structural model, they are included in the structural animation. The ellipses progressively deform, quantitatively showing local variations in strain development associated with the structure’s kinematic evolution. Similarly, regional strains averaged over the footwall, hangingwall and entire surface length can also be displayed.

Within StructureSolver, model strain results can be integrated with strains from interpretations using Area-Depth Graph analysis and Restoration to quickly provide an unprecedented level of structural understanding.  The user can quickly and directly compare theoretical strains from structural models against those determined from Area-Depth analysis of an interpretation of the same region, all from within StructureSolver. The restoration tool now also reports displacements and stretch factors to support integration of results between StructureSolver’s core functionalities.
